The authoring environment of InstallAnywhere (also known as the Advanced Designer and the Project Wizard requires a system with a minimum of 256 MB of RAM and a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 at 8 bits (256 colors). The authoring environment runs on the latest fully patched and updated releases of Windows (98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003), Mac OS X, Solaris, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, or most other UNIX platform. For platforms not specifically listed, a Java 1.3 Virtual Machine must be pre-installed.
Installer EnvironmentInstallers built with InstallAnywhere can run on a system with a minimum of 64 MB of RAM and a screen resolution of 640 x 480 at 8 bits (256 colors). Java 1.1.8 or greater is also required (or Microsoft VM 3167 or later), either pre-installed on the target system or automatically bundled with the installer. Zero G maintains collections of Java Virtual Machines at http://www.ZeroG.com/goto/vmpacks. Installers can run on virtually any version of Windows (95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003), Mac OS X, Solaris, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Tru64, BSD, IRIX, NetWare, z/OS, or OS/390.. Additionally, installers can run on virtually any other system, provided that it has a Java Virtual Machine available (version 1.1.8 or later).
InstallAnywhere installers are compatible with:

EditionsThere are three editions of InstallAnywhere. Each edition is designed to meet product deployment needs for the different types of customers. This manual describes the features available in the Enterprise Edition. Enterprise EditionEnterprise Edition provides the ultimate in configuration options, user interaction, and client/server features. It simplifies complex installations and provides maximum developer customization. The Enterprise Edition is available in English, French, German, or Japanese. Each Enterprise Edition has full international support to create installers in 29 different languages.
Standard EditionStandard Edition offers more features and customizability than any other product in its class. It is ideal for desktop application deployment and has international support for 9 languages.

When evaluating InstallAnywhere, the trial versions of InstallAnywhere are fully functional and allow developers to utilize all of the product's features. The installers that are built with an unregistered trial version of InstallAnywhere expire after three days. Purchasing a license and registering a copy of InstallAnywhere will enable developers to build permanent installers. For sales information, e–mail [email protected].
PLEASE NOTE: Developers don't need to rebuild projects built with trial versions of InstallAnywhere; after registering, simply restart InstallAnywhere, click Build, and the installers will be ready to go.
With a license and a serial number, developers may register and activate InstallAnywhere online. The activation process sends the IP address, serial number, and registration information over the Internet. No other information is sent to Zero G. If access to the Internet is unavailable, this information may be saved to a file and e–mailed to Zero G at [email protected].
Zero G promises to keep registration information private and Zero G will never sell or distribute it outside of Zero G. Zero G uses this information solely to ensure the integrity of Zero G’s registered user database.
It is a violation of the license agreement to use multiple copies of InstallAnywhere with the same serial number.

If InstallAnywhere is installed behind a firewall, the registration may time out. If it does it will create a text file that can be e–mailed to [email protected] for registration. For registered InstallAnywhere customers using a version prior to 6.0, the older serial number will not activate version 6.0. Please contact the Zero G sales department at [email protected] for upgrade information.
To register InstallAnywhere:Open InstallAnywhere and click Preferences from the initial splash screen, or choose Register under the Help menu.
Select the Registration tab.
Type in the serial number and other information and click Register.
Quit and restart InstallAnywhere.
Project ConversionProjects built with InstallAnywhere 4.5 and earlier will be converted to the new InstallAnywhere 6 format. When trying to load an older project into the new Advanced Designer, you will be notified that the original project will be saved. Converted projects may have components generated automatically. Automatically generated components will have the following note:
